A gas strut for boat-rack lifting systems, giving controlled lift assistance on the way up and a secure hold once the rack is raised. It is a pneumatic gas-filled cylinder with weather-resistant seals, safety end fittings and black powder coat. Stroke length is 12″ (305 mm), compressed length 18″ (457 mm), rod diameter 10 mm and cylinder diameter 22 mm. Owners replace a strut when the rack starts to drop under its own weight, the rod shows oil, or lifting has become a two-person job.

Installation and care
Prop the rack before removing the old strut — it is holding weight. Replace struts in pairs where a rack uses two, since a fresh one against a tired one will lift unevenly. Mount with the rod pointing down so the seal stays lubricated, and check the end fittings are seated and clipped. Wipe the rod clean after dusty trips — grit on the rod wears the seal — and do not grease or oil it.
