Which wheel bearings fit an 8,000 lb trailer axle: 14125A or 02475 outer?

Short answer: On an 8,000 lb axle with 8 on 6.5" hubs, DeeMaxx and Dexter list a 25580 inner bearing in a 25520 race and an 02475 outer bearing in an 02420 race, with a 2250DLR seal. The 14125A outer belongs to the 7,000 lb hub. The inner is the same on both, so read the outer bearing before you order.

Many bearing charts, including the one in our bearing-kit guide, stop at 7,000 lb, and the common 12-inch kit is the 7K pair. On DeeMaxx's 6K to 8K hubs the inner bearing is the same; the outer bearing is what changes with the axle rating.

The numbers, hub by hub

These are the races, bearings and seal DeeMaxx lists for its galvanized 8-lug and 6-lug hubs:

Axle Hub (example) Inner bearing / race Outer bearing / race Seal
8K HUB-865T-9-GALV (Dexter 008-399-06) 25580 / 25520 02475 / 02420 2250DLR
7K HUB-865T-7K-GALV 25580 / 25520 14125A / 14276 2250DLR
6K HUB-655T-GALV 25580 / 25520 15123 / 15245 2250DLR

The 8K and 7K hubs share the 8 on 6.5" bolt pattern, so the wheels will not tell you which you have. The outer bearing will. Two details are worth knowing:

  • The 8K hubs come with 9/16"-18 or 5/8"-18 studs. HUB-865T-9-GALV and HUB-865NT-9-GALV (Dexter 008-399-05) use 9/16" studs; HUB-865T-10-GALV (Dexter 008-399-08) uses 5/8". A 7K hub uses 1/2"-20 studs, which is a quick check from the outside.
  • 6K is not the same as 7K at the outer bearing. DeeMaxx lists 15123 outer bearings for its 6 on 5.5" hubs, so a chart that groups 5,200 to 7,000 lb under 14125A does not cover every 6K hub.

How to confirm before you order

  1. Pull the outer bearing and read the number on the cone. If it says 02475, it is an 8K wheel end.
  2. If the number has worn off, measure the stud thread: 9/16" or 5/8" points to 8K, 1/2" to 6K or 7K.
  3. Check the Dexter hub number on your paperwork or the hub casting against the cross-references above.

What we stock

We do not sell the 02475 bearing on its own. The 8K wheel-end parts we carry are the galvanized 8K hubs above, which come with their races fitted, and the 1/DBI-8KD-9T-MAXX-KIT, a single-wheel disc brake conversion that includes one 25580 and one 02475 bearing, a 2250DL grease seal and a screw-in cap. If your axle turns out to be 7K, the 12-inch Timken set is the 25580 / 14125A pair. Not sure? Send us the numbers off your old bearings and we will match them; everything ships from Upland, California.
