A light that flickers when you press the wall plate, a switch that needs a "knack," a water pump switch that's simply died — in an RV these are rarely wiring problems. They're the switch itself, and it's one of the easiest fixes in the whole rig.
Why RV Switches Fail Faster Than House Switches
Three reasons: vibration — thousands of miles of corrugations work contacts loose and fatigue the spring mechanisms; DC arcing — 12V DC current arcs across opening contacts more aggressively than household AC, eroding cheap contacts over time; and budget hardware — RV builders fit the cheapest switch that works on day one. The fix isn't another bargain switch; it's a properly-rated one.

Replacing a 12V Switch Safely
- Kill the circuit: pull the fuse for that circuit or switch off the battery master. Verify dead with a test light.
- Pull the old switch: pry the plate, unscrew the switch, and pull it forward. Photograph the wiring before disconnecting.
- Note the terminals: most RV light switches are simple single-pole (two wires); transfer them to the new switch's matching terminals, crimping fresh spade connectors if the old ones are loose — loose connectors are tomorrow's flicker.
- Test, then mount: restore power, confirm operation, then screw everything home.
Ten minutes per switch, and the whole panel can be refreshed in an afternoon.
