Should I get Bilstein Comfort or HD shocks for my E-450 Class C?

Answered by RV Parts Giant · Upland, CA · October 4, 2026

Short answer: Bilstein makes two B6 valvings for the E-Series cutaway. The RV Comfort pair (33-187563 front, 33-176840 rear) is valved for motorhome ride quality and suits most Class C coaches. The HD pair (33-187570 front, 33-176857 rear) is firmer, built for commercial and heavy-duty use.

Both are Bilstein B6 heavy-duty monotube shocks and both fit the Ford E-Series cutaway that most Class C motorhomes are built on. The difference is valving, and Bilstein labels it plainly.

Front Rear Bilstein's description
RV Comfort 33-187563 33-176840 HD Comfort valving for optimal RV ride quality
HD 33-187570 33-176857 HD Standard valving for commercial and HD use. More firm

Which to choose

Start with Comfort for a typical Class C. It is the valving Bilstein built specifically for motorhome ride quality, which is what most owners want from a coach that spends its life on highways.

Consider HD if the coach is heavily loaded or works hard. The firmer valving trades some comfort for more control, which some owners prefer on a long, heavy coach or one that tows. If you are torn, owners on the forums commonly run HD at the rear only, where the towing and storage weight sits, and Comfort at the front. Both pairs fit the same chassis years, so you can mix front and rear that way.

Check the fit

Both valvings cover the E-350 and E-450 Super Duty cutaways across most years; the full lists are on each product page, and the Comfort pair also covers some lighter E-Series vans. To check yours, pick Ford, then your model and year in the Bilstein Shock Fitment Finder.

How many

One per corner. The Comfort set is two fronts and two rears, priced at the sum of the four singles.
