How Many SolarSaga Panels Can My Jackery Take?

Every Jackery has a solar input limit. Here is each station's limit from Jackery's specs and manuals, the panels that match it and the rules that catch people out.

The short version: every Jackery has a solar input limit, and panel watts above that limit are wasted. The Explorer 1000 v2, 1500 v2 and 2000 v2 take 400 W, which in practice means two SolarSaga 200W panels, one on each port. The Explorer 1500 Ultra and HomePower 2000 Plus v2 take 800 W. The HomePower 3000 and 3600 Plus take 1,000 W. The Explorer 5000 Plus is in a class of its own. The table below covers our main Jackery stations, using Jackery's own figures.

Solar input limit by station

Station Capacity Max solar input (Jackery) Panel setups Jackery shows or sells
Explorer 300D 288 Wh 100 W (16–28 V) SolarSaga 40 Air. Not the 100 Air.
Explorer 300 v2 288 Wh 100 W (USB-C input) SolarSaga 40 Air. Not the 100 Air.
Explorer 600 v2 640 Wh Not stated in Jackery's specs Jackery quotes charge times with 40 W, 100 W and 200 W panels
Explorer 1000 v2 1,070 Wh 400 W (2 DC8020 ports) One SolarSaga 200W (Jackery’s set). Two, one per port, get close to the limit
HomePower 1000 Plus v2 1,024 Wh Up to 400 W One or two SolarSaga 200W
Explorer 1500 v2 1,536 Wh 400 W (2 DC8020 ports) Two 100 Air, or four 100 Air with the connector
Explorer 2000 v2 2,042 Wh 400 W (2 DC8020 ports) One 100 W or 200 W panel per port, or two 100 W per port with the connector
Explorer 1500 Ultra 1,536 Wh 800 W (2 DC8020 ports) At most two panels per port
HomePower 2000 Plus v2 2,048 Wh 800 W One SolarSaga 500 X, or two 200W
HomePower 3000 3,072 Wh 1,000 W (2 DC8020 ports) SolarSaga 200W or 500 X
HomePower 3600 Plus 3,584 Wh 1,000 W (2 DC8020 ports) One 500 X, or two 200W
Explorer 5000 Plus 5,040 Wh Low-voltage ports 1,200 W; Jackery quotes up to 4,000 W with the high-voltage input as well Each low-voltage port: one 500 X or three 200W

The Explorer 5000 Plus has a second, high-voltage solar input (135–450 V, MC4) for panels wired in series. That's how Jackery gets to its 4,000 W figure. Plan that part with an installer.

For the HomePower 1000 v2 and 3600 Pro Max, Jackery's spec tables don't give a solar wattage. Jackery sells the 1000 v2 with a SolarSaga 200W and the Pro Max with a 500 X. Ask us before you go beyond those pairings.

The rules that catch people out

  • The 100 Air doesn't charge the small units. Jackery lists the SolarSaga 100 Air as not compatible with the Explorer 300 v2, 300, 300D or 240D.
  • Match both ports. Jackery's manuals say to use the same panel model, and the same number of panels, on both DC8020 inputs. Mismatched voltages can damage the station.
  • Two panels on one port needs the connector. On the 1500 v2 and 1500 Ultra, Jackery allows at most two panels per DC8020 port, and its manuals show the second panel joined through a solar panel connector sold separately. Jackery's Solar Panel Connector listing doesn't name the 1500 v2, 1500 Ultra or 2000 v2, so ask us to confirm the part for your station.
  • The 500 X has its own rule. Each 500 X is six 85 W panels in one. Jackery says don't connect them in series, and don't go beyond six panels per DC8020 port.
  • Stay inside the voltage window. The Explorer 1000 v2, 1500 v2, 1500 Ultra and 2000 v2 accept 16–60 V on their solar ports, and the 300D accepts 16–28 V. A SolarSaga 200W has an open-circuit voltage of about 22 V, so a single panel per port is well inside the window.
  • Not at the same time as car charging. Jackery's 1500 v2 manual warns against charging from a car outlet and solar at the same time.

What the panels actually put back

A panel's rating is its output in lab sun. For planning, we use 4–5 peak sun hours a day and about 75% of the rating after heat, angle and wiring losses. Those are our assumptions, not Jackery's, and cloud or shade cuts the result.

Panel watts on the station Energy per day (planning) Sun hours to refill from empty
100 W on a 288 Wh Explorer 300 v2 300–375 Wh about 3.8
400 W on a 1,070 Wh Explorer 1000 v2 1,200–1,500 Wh about 3.6
400 W on a 1,536 Wh Explorer 1500 v2 1,200–1,500 Wh about 5.1
400 W on a 2,042 Wh Explorer 2000 v2 1,200–1,500 Wh about 6.8
800 W on a 1,536 Wh Explorer 1500 Ultra 2,400–3,000 Wh about 2.6
1,000 W on a 3,584 Wh HomePower 3600 Plus 3,000–3,750 Wh about 4.8

The pattern to notice: the 2000 v2 has the same 400 W limit as the 1000 v2, so it takes almost twice as long to refill from solar. If you'll live off the sun for a week, the solar limit matters as much as the battery size.

Which panels to buy

For any 400 W Explorer, two SolarSaga 200W panels, one per port, reach the limit with the fewest parts. If storage space is tight, four SolarSaga 100 Air panels do the same job on the 1500 v2 and 2000 v2 with the connector. For a curved roof, the SolarSaga 100 Light bends. For the 1,000 W HomePower units, Jackery’s own sets use a SolarSaga 500 X. A second one, on the other port, takes you to the 1,000 W limit. Jackery says the 500 X is for portable use, not permanent mounting.

Panels in the sun and the station in the shade? The 10m DC Extension Cable Plus adds 32.8 ft. For a side-by-side look at each panel, read SolarSaga panels explained. For station-and-panel pairs that Jackery sells as sets, see the Jackery RV power kits.

FAQ

Can I use non-Jackery panels?

Jackery recommends its own panels and says the open-circuit voltage must stay inside the station's input range. Jackery says it isn't responsible for losses from other brands' panels. For a fixed roof array, size it with our RV solar and battery calculator.

Will more panels than the limit hurt the station?

For most models Jackery publishes a maximum input wattage, not a panel count. Watts above that limit aren’t used, so they’re money spent for nothing. The voltage range and the panels-per-port rules above are the limits that protect the station, so keep to those.

Can I charge from solar and the wall at once?

On the Explorer 1500 v2, yes. Jackery's manual says solar takes priority and both charge at the maximum allowed power. Check your own model's manual.

Where do Jackery panels ship from?

Direct from Jackery's US warehouse, free, to the lower 48 states only. Found it cheaper? We'll beat it. See all Jackery products.
