Victron DC-DC Chargers: Orion XS & Orion-Tr Smart
A DC-DC charger charges your house battery from the vehicle alternator while you drive, with the right charge profile and without overloading modern smart alternators. It is how most van builds and towed trailers keep a lithium bank topped up between campsites.
Which Orion?
-
Orion XS 12/12-50A: Victron's compact, high-efficiency charger with up to 50A and Bluetooth. The first choice for most vans and trucks.
-
Orion-Tr Smart non-isolated: proven 18A and 30A chargers, can be paralleled for more current.
-
Orion-Tr Smart isolated: keeps the vehicle and house systems electrically separate, for long cable runs and marine installs.
-
Orion and Orion-Tr converters (not "Smart"): fixed-voltage power supplies for running 12V loads from a 24V or 48V bank, not battery chargers.
Size for your alternator: a 50A charger is about 700W of extra load, comfortable for most modern trucks and vans.
Every Victron product here is genuine stock from an authorized U.S. Victron dealer, shipped free from Upland, California, with the full Victron warranty. Not sure which model fits your rig? Call us or send your RV details and we will size the system with you.

Common questions
Orion XS or Orion-Tr Smart?
The XS delivers more current from one unit and runs cooler. The Tr Smart comes in isolated versions and can be stacked. Most new builds choose the XS.
Do I need one if I tow a trailer?
If you want to charge the trailer battery while driving, yes. Long cable runs to a trailer drop voltage, and a DC-DC charger compensates for it.
