Mono beam or Neway IFS: which Bilstein shocks go on a Freightliner XC?

Answered by RV Parts Giant · Upland, CA · October 4, 2026

Short answer: First check the front suspension. A 2002-2021 XC with a mono beam front axle takes Bilstein 24-234498 at the front, and an XC with Neway IFS 114 independent front suspension takes 24-225007. The 2002-2021 rear is 24-234504; for 1993-2012 coaches Bilstein also lists 24-186452 for front or rear.

The Freightliner XC is the diesel pusher chassis under a large share of Class A coaches. Bilstein makes several B6 shocks for it, and the right one depends on the front suspension type and the chassis year, not on the coach brand.

Step 1: which front suspension do you have?

  • Mono beam (solid) front axle. 2002-2021 XC: Bilstein 24-234498.
  • Neway IFS 114 independent front suspension. Bilstein 24-225007, listed for 1993-2012 XC chassis.

The chassis build sheet or the XC data plate will say which you have. If you cannot tell, a photo of the front axle from behind the wheel is enough for us to confirm.

Step 2: the rear

For 2002-2021 XC chassis the rear is Bilstein 24-234504. Bilstein lists it by rail variant: Raised Rail and Straight Rail through 2021, Modular Rail 2008-2021, Lowered Rail 2007-2019 and Formed Rail 2005-2007, so match yours on the product page.

For 1993-2012 XC chassis Bilstein also lists 24-186452 for front or rear positions, and there are year-specific fronts for 1995-1997 and 1997-2002 coaches. The Bilstein Shock Fitment Finder lists every option for your year.

Count before you order

Diesel pushers do not all use four shocks. Some XC coaches carry more than one shock per corner at the rear axle, so count the shocks on your coach before ordering. We sell the 2002-2021 mono beam fronts and the rears as front pairs and rear pairs, priced at the sum of the singles, and as single shocks if you need an odd number.

Installation note

XC owners on the forums report that the rear shocks are tight to reach with the wheels on and that seized upper bolts are common on older coaches, so allow for new hardware. If a shop does the job, give them the part numbers above.
