Isolated input and output protect the starter battery from over-discharge, and the unit works with both traditional and smart alternators. Renogy recommends 18-16 AWG copper for the D+ ignition and LC control wires, neither of which is included, and notes the temperature sensor is also sold separately and is not used with lithium batteries.
