Black Series Camper Parts in Canada: What to Source Locally and What Has to Cross the Border

Black Series has no Canadian parts dealer yet. Which parts HQ owners can source locally, which must come from the US, and what a cross-border order costs.

Black Series HQ12 pop-top roof gas strut, genuine OEM part

Black Series HQ campers are on the road in every province, and there is, at the time of writing, no Black Series parts dealer in Canada. The company's North American site describes a Quebec dealership as coming, and until it arrives a Canadian owner with a broken strut or a worn hub has the same problem American owners had before we started stocking these parts: nobody to call.

This guide sorts the parts on an HQ into what you can buy in Canada today, what has to come from the US, and what the second category actually costs to import.

Source these in Canada

A good deal of an HQ is standard trailer hardware, and Canadian trailer-parts retailers stock it with domestic shipping.

  • Wheel bearings and seals. The HQ's axles use the standard Timken sets, L68149 and L44649 on the 10-inch drums, 25580 and 14125A on the 12-inch. Any Canadian trailer shop has them. Our bearing sizes guide tells you which your camper takes. If you prefer the matched 10-inch or 12-inch kit from us, both sit under the CAD 40 line where no duty or tax applies.
  • Victron electrical. Canadian authorised Victron dealers stock the SmartShunt, MPPT and MultiPlus ranges fitted to HQ campers, with free domestic shipping.
  • Fuses, breakers, LED bulbs, plumbing fittings, sealant and tape. All standard.
  • Tyres. Local, obviously.

These have to come from the US

The parts that make an HQ an HQ have no Canadian source, and these are the ones we exist for:

Our HQ parts compatibility guide lists which of these fit which model, and the HQ12 and HQ19 guides go part by part.

What a cross-border order costs

Black Series factory parts are made in China, so they do not qualify for duty-free entry under the North American trade agreement. For a courier shipment from us:

Order value What Canada charges
Under CAD 40 Nothing
CAD 40 to 150 Your province's sales tax only
Over CAD 150 Sales tax, plus duty at the ordinary rate for the part's category

On top of that is the shipping charge, which our checkout calculates and shows for your address before you pay, and any brokerage fee the carrier charges for clearing the parcel, which is yours under our shipping policy. Our guide to ordering from the US into Canada explains the bands and the brokerage question in detail.

The practical rule: a single small part, a strut or a lock or a seal strip, ships cheaply and clears with little or no charge. A suspension order or a set of panels is a larger parcel where the duty and brokerage are real, and it is worth grouping everything you will need for the season into one order rather than three.

Plan the spares before the trip, not during it

For a Canadian owner the cost of a part is not the problem; the lead time is. A US parcel with customs clearance is a week or two, and that is a trip lost if the failure happens on the way to the Yukon. The spares list that makes sense for a camper this far from its parts supply is the one in our ten spares guide: bearings and seals for one hub, a strut, a door lock, a seal strip, fuses, and the water pump fittings. Order them once, in one parcel, and carry them.

When the Quebec dealer opens

A Canadian dealer will change this guide, and we will update it when it does. Until then, the route is the one above, and our answer to a Canadian owner's photo of a broken part is the same as to an American one: we will tell you what it is, whether it is a local part or one of ours, and what it costs landed. Everything we stock ships from Upland, California.
