Setting up camp safely happens in a fixed order: stop the RV rolling, get it level, then steady it. Each step needs different gear, and buying the wrong part, such as a single chock for a tandem axle or a small pad for soft ground, is a common mistake. This guide matches Camco's chocks, wheel stops, jack pads and leveling helpers to each step, using Camco's own specifications.
Step 1: stop it rolling
Chock the wheels before you unhitch. A trailer that rolls while you lower the tongue jack can damage the hitch, the jack or you. Camco's options:
| Part | What it does | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Wheel Chock, Yellow (44412) | A single durable polymer chock with UV inhibitors, yellow so it's easy to see | Single-axle trailers; buy two, one for each side |
| Super Wheel Chock (44492) | Solid polymer construction with UV inhibitors; keeps the vehicle and trailer from moving | Chocking a trailer or vehicle and re-hitching with confidence |
| Tandem Wheel Chock (44435) | Holds a tandem-axle trailer against both forward and backward motion | Tandem-axle trailers; also works as a tongue jack stand up to 400 lb tongue weight |
| Wheel Stop Tandem Tire Stabilizer (44622) | Fits between tandem tires to stop movement when parked or re-hitching | Tires 26"–30" in diameter with 3 1/2"–5 1/2" between them |
| Locking Wheel Stop with Padlock (44642) | The same fit, with a padlock included | Storage lots and long stays |
The wheel stops only fit if your tires and the gap between them fall inside Camco's ranges, so measure before you order. On a single-axle trailer, use a pair of chocks.
For trailers with a tongue wheel, the Wheel Dock (44632) stops the wheel rolling on pavement or sinking into soft ground.
Step 2: get it level
Level the RV side to side with blocks or ramps under the tires, then front to back with the tongue jack or the leveling system. A level RV sleeps better, drains properly, and lets an absorption fridge run as designed.
- The Camco Trailer Level (25533) screws to the front of the trailer where you can see it in your mirrors. A large ball shows side-to-side level, and a second level shows front to back, so you can level while you're still positioning the trailer.
- The Leveling Block Wheel Chocks, 2-pack (44401) connect to Camco's Leveling Blocks so you can level and chock at the same time. They work only with Camco's Leveling Blocks, so they suit owners who already use those blocks.
Step 3: steady it
Stabilizer jacks stop the bounce and sway once the RV is level. They aren't for lifting it. Lower them until they're just snug. Their feet are small, though, so on grass, sand or gravel they sink or rock. Camco's pads spread the load:
| Part | Size and pack | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Large Stabilizer Jack Pads (44541) | 14" x 11.7", 2-pack | Soft ground: grass, sand, mud |
| Small Stabilizer Jack Pads (44595) | 6.5" x 9", 4-pack | Firmer sites; one pack covers four corners |
| Rubber Stabilizer Jack Pads (44591) | 6.2" x 6.2", 4-pack | Gravel, tree roots and rough earth: the recycled rubber flexes instead of cracking or wobbling |
| Stabilizer Jack Support (44421) | 7" lift, rated 6,000 lb, takes round jack pads up to 10" | When a jack runs out of travel on uneven ground |
Camco lists the plastic pads for stack jacks, fifth-wheel stabilizers, swing-down stabilizers and awning arms. They interlock and strap together for storage. Our answer page which Camco jack pads to use covers sizing in more detail.
If you wind scissor stabilizers by hand, the Scissor Jack Socket Drill Adapter (57363) has a standard 3/4" socket and fits 3/8" and 1/2" power drills.
Packing up
- Raise the stabilizers fully before you hitch up, and keep the chocks in place until the tow vehicle is connected.
- Remove the chocks last, then walk around the rig before you drive off.
- Keep pads, chocks and the socket adapter in one bin so nothing gets left at the site.
- If your trailer has an electric tongue jack, Camco's Eaz-Lift electric tongue jack head cover (48356) keeps UV, moisture and dirt off it in storage. It measures 18"H x 7.5"W x 8"D and fits most styles and brands of electric tongue jack.
FAQ
Do I need chocks if my trailer has stabilizer jacks?
Yes. Stabilizers steady a parked RV; they don't stop it rolling. Chock first.
Which chock for a tandem-axle trailer?
The Tandem Wheel Chock or a Wheel Stop between the tires. The Wheel Stop fits tires 26"–30" in diameter with 3 1/2"–5 1/2" between them.
Can the stabilizer jacks level my RV?
No. Level with blocks under the tires first, then lower the stabilizers onto pads until they're snug.
