Victron Battery Monitors: SmartShunt & BMV
A battery monitor measures every amp going in and out of your bank, so you see a true state of charge and time remaining instead of guessing from voltage. It is the single most useful upgrade in most RV electrical systems, and essential with lithium, whose voltage barely changes until it is nearly empty.
Which monitor?

SmartShunt: the shunt alone, read over Bluetooth in the VictronConnect app. Available in 500A, 1000A and 2000A.

BMV-712 Smart: the same measurement plus a panel display for your wall, and an alarm relay. Choose it if you want to see the numbers without a phone.

Lynx Shunt VE.Can: the monitor for Lynx busbar systems, with a built-in main fuse.

BMV-700H: for high-voltage battery banks of 60 to 385VDC.

Smart Battery Sense: a wireless voltage and temperature sensor for solar controllers. It does not measure state of charge.
Size the shunt to the largest continuous current in your system. Most 12V trailers with an inverter of 2000VA or less fit a 500A shunt.

Common questions
Does a SmartShunt work with any battery?
Yes, lithium, AGM, gel or flooded. Set the battery capacity and chemistry in the app after installing.
Can it show my starter battery too?
Yes. The auxiliary input on the SmartShunt and BMV-712 can read a second battery voltage or a temperature sensor.
