Setup essentials

  1. Battery first, panels second. Always connect the battery before the PV array so the controller can detect system voltage correctly — reverse the order and many controllers fault or misread 12V as 24V.
  2. Set the battery type before first charge. Select AGM, Gel or Lithium in the menu; the wrong absorption voltage is the fastest way to shorten battery life.
  3. Size your wiring for 60A. Between controller and battery use appropriately heavy cable and a fuse or breaker within 18" of the battery positive terminal. Undersized cable causes the voltage-drop problems we cover in the 12V voltage drop guide.

  5. Mount it ventilated and vertical, close to the batteries, never in a sealed box — a 60A controller sheds real heat at full output.
