Why this is the decision you cannot undo
You can add solar later. You can add a transfer switch later. You cannot add expandability later. If you buy a station that does not accept packs and then find you need more capacity, the only move is buying a second complete station.
So if there is any chance your needs will grow, pay attention to this list before you pick the base unit, not after.
Battery Pack 2000 Plus v2
2,048Wh of LiFePO4 rated at 6,000 cycles to 70% or better capacity. It fits the HomePower 2000 Plus v2 and the HomePower 1000 Plus v2.
Each station accepts up to five packs. On the 2000 Plus v2 that takes you to 12kWh. On the 1000 Plus v2, Jackery quotes up to 11kWh. The pack charges through the station from a wall outlet or solar, has its own LCD for battery percentage and fault codes, and shuts the display off after two hours idle.
This is the cheapest route into a system that grows: start with the HomePower 1000 Plus v2 and add packs as the budget allows.
Battery Pack 3600
3,584Wh, over 6,000 cycles, fitting the HomePower 3600 Plus and the HomePower 3600 Pro Max.
One station takes five packs for 21.5kWh. Two stations in parallel take ten packs for 43kWh. It has dual handles because it is a two-person lift into a storage bay, and it operates down to -20 C, which matters for winter use.
The useful detail: because it fits both 3600-series stations, the packs carry over if you change base units later.
Battery Pack 5000 Plus
5,040Wh, over 4,000 cycles, and it works with the Explorer 5000 Plus only. It meets UL1973 with a BMS managing charge and discharge, operates down to -15 C, and the dual-handle design is rated to carry over four times its own weight. It weighs about 81.6 lb.
Stacking packs takes a 5000 Plus system toward 60kWh, which is house-scale rather than camper-scale.
The stations that take no packs
Worth stating plainly, because the product names do not warn you:
- Explorer 300D and Explorer 500 v2
- Explorer 1000 v2 — the best seller, and not expandable
- HomePower 1000 v2 — note this is different from the 1000 Plus v2, which is expandable
- Explorer 1500 v2 and Explorer 1500 Ultra
- Explorer 2000 v2 — again, different from the HomePower 2000 Plus v2
- HomePower 3000 — Jackery does not list an expansion battery for it
The pattern, roughly: the word Plus in a HomePower name signals an expandable unit. It is not a perfect rule, but it is a good first filter.
How much capacity do you actually need?
Before buying packs, do the arithmetic. A 12V compressor fridge in a camper runs somewhere around 400 to 600Wh a day. Lights, a water pump, phone and laptop charging add maybe 200 to 300Wh. So a typical trailer without air conditioning or heating is doing 600 to 900Wh a day.
Against that, a 2,048Wh station is two days of margin, and a 3,584Wh unit is three or more. Most people who think they need expansion actually need solar, because the problem is not storage but refilling it. The SolarSaga 500 X or the DC-DC alternator charger often solves it for less money than a pack.

Can I use a Battery Pack 3600 on a HomePower 3000?
No. Jackery lists the Battery Pack 3600 for the HomePower 3600 Plus and 3600 Pro Max. The 3000 is a different unit.
Does an expansion battery charge on its own?
No. The packs charge through the connected station, from a wall outlet or from solar. They are not standalone batteries.
Will adding packs make the inverter more powerful?
No, and this is a common misunderstanding. Packs add capacity, which is runtime. The station's output rating in watts does not change, so what you can run at once stays the same.
Can I mix pack models?
