Victron's Blue Smart chargers all share the same core: multi-stage adaptive charging, lithium/AGM/gel profiles, and Bluetooth setup and monitoring in the VictronConnect app. The IP number is about where the charger lives — and it changes the cooling, the mounting, and the output options.

What the IP ratings mean

  • IP22 — protected against drips: an indoor charger. Mount it in a cabinet, garage or battery compartment that stays dry.
  • IP65 — sealed against dust and water jets: fine in engine bays, open battery boxes and damp compartments.
  • IP67 — fully sealed, submersion-rated: the extreme-environment option.

Blue Smart IP22: more power, more outputs

The IP22 uses fan-assisted cooling, which is why it reaches the highest charge currents in the Blue Smart family and comes in 1-output or 3-output versions — the 3-output model charges three isolated batteries (start battery, house bank, bow thruster or trailer battery) from one wall unit. It's also VE.Smart Network enabled, so it can use voltage/temperature data from a Victron battery sense or SmartShunt for more accurate charging. Choose it for garage, boat-cabin or RV-interior charging where water isn't a concern and you want the most amps or multiple banks.

Blue Smart IP65: sealed and silent

The IP65 is fully sealed with silent natural-convection cooling — no fan to pull in dust or moisture, no noise while it maintains a battery overnight or all winter. It runs from small 6V/12V maintainer sizes up to 12V/25A and 24V units, ships with a DC connector lead, and shrugs off hose-downs and battery-box humidity. Choose it for outdoor use, engine bays, motorcycles and seasonal storage — it's the pick we compare against NOCO in our Blue Smart vs NOCO Genius guide.

Bottom line

  • Dry indoor spot, biggest amps, or 3 batteries at once: IP22.
  • Anywhere wet, dusty or outdoors — and silent charging: IP65.
  • Regular submersion or extreme exposure: IP67.

FAQ

Which size do I need?

Roughly 10–20% of battery capacity in amps: ~5–7A for batteries up to 70Ah, 10–15A around 100–150Ah, 25–30A for large lithium banks.

Do they all charge lithium?

Yes — every Blue Smart charger has a LiFePO4 profile selectable in the VictronConnect app.

Can I leave one connected all winter?

Yes. Storage mode holds the battery safely for months, and Bluetooth lets you check on it without opening the compartment.
