Victron MPPT Solar Charge Controllers: SmartSolar & BlueSolar
An MPPT solar charge controller gets the most power out of your panels and charges the battery with the right voltage for its chemistry. Victron's controllers are known for high efficiency, a long warranty and the VictronConnect app.
How to read the model number
A SmartSolar MPPT 100/30 accepts up to 100V from the panels and charges at up to 30A. Pick the first number above the cold open-circuit voltage of your panel string, and the second from your array size: amps is roughly panel watts divided by battery voltage. 400W on a 12V battery is about 33A, so a 100/50 gives room to grow.
SmartSolar or BlueSolar?
-
SmartSolar has Bluetooth built in, so you set it up and watch it from your phone.
-
BlueSolar is the same charger without Bluetooth, for systems monitored through a GX device or a VE.Direct dongle.
-
Tr or MC4: Tr models have screw terminals, MC4 models take solar connectors directly. VE.Can models network with other Victron chargers.
-
PWM controllers are the budget option for small panels matched to the battery voltage.

Common questions
Can I use two controllers on one battery?
Yes. Victron controllers can run in parallel on the same bank; with a GX device or VE.Smart networking they share battery voltage and temperature.
Which controller for a 12V travel trailer?
For 200 to 400W of roof solar, a SmartSolar 100/30 or 100/50 is the usual fit. Wiring panels in series to cut cable losses often calls for a 150V model.
