The awning turns a parking spot into a living space - shade for the camp kitchen, cover from the rain, and the heart of camp life. It's also exposed to sun, wind and travel, so eventually it needs replacing. Here's how to choose the right one.
Get the size right first
Awnings are sized to the length of your camper's wall. Common off-road sizes run around 11.5 ft (3.5 m) and 13 ft (4 m). Measure your mounting rail length and the available clear run along the wall before ordering - too long and it fouls doors or hatches, too short and you lose shade. When in doubt, send us your camper model and we'll confirm the size.
Electric vs manual
Electric (retractable) awnings extend and retract at the touch of a button - fast, easy, and one less setup chore. They draw 12V power and have a motor to maintain. Manual awnings are lighter, cheaper and have less to go wrong, at the cost of a bit more effort on setup. For off-road use, build quality and wind resistance matter more than the mechanism - a flimsy awning of either type won't survive a gusty night.
Fabric and frame
Look for UV-stable fabric and a lightweight but rigid aluminium frame built to handle travel vibration and off-road dust. Replacement fabric alone is sometimes available if your frame is sound and only the canopy is sun-damaged.
Fitment by brand
Many off-road campers use similar roll-out awning systems, but mounting rails and lengths vary - a Black Series HQ awning, for example, is sized to that camper's wall. Every awning is labelled with its size and fitment notes. Browse the awning & door steps collection or the full off-road camper parts range, all shipping from the US.
