How often should RV detectors be replaced?
Most RV propane and CO/LP detectors have a 5–7 year sensor life — check the date printed on the unit. An expired detector can still beep on test while the sensor itself is unreliable.
Where should each detector be mounted?
Propane detectors mount low (propane is heavier than air); carbon monoxide detectors mount higher. Dual CO/LP units follow the manufacturer's specified height.
My detector keeps beeping — do I need a new one?
Not always: low 12V battery voltage, dust, and aerosol fumes are common causes. Work through our beeping detector troubleshooting guide, and see the detector buyer's guide if it's time to replace.
