The short version: ICECO makes four kinds of 12V fridge. The APL series is aluminum and the lightest for its size. The VL Pro series is steel, heavier and built to take a beating in a truck bed. The BF models are upright, front-door fridges that sit in a cabinet like a house fridge. And there are three specialists: the IPT20 for pickups, the GOPack12 backpack and the VL45PLUS with its side drawer. Pick the family first, then the size. For most travel trailers and vans that means an APL55 or a VL75ProD.
How ICECO fridges work
Every model on this page is a compressor fridge, not a thermoelectric cooler and not a three-way absorption fridge. That matters in an RV for three reasons. A compressor fridge holds a set temperature in hot weather, it can run as a true freezer, and it does not need to be level the way an absorption fridge does. The APL55 and both BF models are rated to keep working at up to 40 degrees of tilt.
Most of the range uses SECOP compressors and ICECO puts a 5-year warranty on the compressor, with one year on other parts on most models. The exceptions are worth knowing: the IPT20 uses an MGCC compressor, and the GOPack12 listing simply says compressor.
If you are replacing a propane absorption fridge in a trailer, read our 12V fridge swap kit first. A compressor fridge runs on your battery all day, so the swap is a fridge plus the battery capacity to feed it.
Single zone or dual zone?
A single zone fridge is one box at one temperature, either fridge or freezer. A dual zone fridge has two compartments you set separately, so you can keep ice cream frozen on one side and drinks cold on the other.
- Single zone: APL20, VL35ProS, VL45ProS, VL60ProS, VL45PLUS, IPT20, GOPack12.
- Dual zone: APL35 (a 27 L main compartment and an 8 L side compartment), VL45ProD, VL75ProD and VL90ProD. The VL75ProD and VL90ProD have two separate lids, and you can shut either zone off to save power.
- Either: the APL55 runs dual zone or, with the divider out, as one big compartment. The BF65 and BF86 are convertible too: a freezer section plus a fridge, or one compartment.
Rule of thumb: if you plan to carry frozen food for more than a weekend, buy dual zone. If the fridge is just for drinks and the day's food, single zone gives you more usable space for the size.

APL series: aluminum and light
The APL fridges have aluminum cases, which is why they are the lightest ICECO fridges at each size. They run from -4°F to 68°F and connect to the ICECO app over Bluetooth, and the APL20, APL35 and APL55 take 12/24V DC or 110-120V AC.
- APL20 — 21 qt, single zone, 22.9 lb, silver or black. The small one for a weekend or a second fridge for drinks.
- APL35 — 37 qt dual zone split into 27 L and 8 L, 32 lb, silver or black. The most practical size for two people on a long weekend.
- ICECO x Jeep APL35 — the same 37 qt dual zone fridge as a limited edition in Jeep 41 Green with leather handles and latches.
- APL55 — 58 qt, dual or single zone, 3-level low-voltage battery protection, rated to run at up to 40 degrees of tilt, 63.2 lb, silver or black. The family size.
VL Pro series: steel and tough
The VL Pro fridges have steel cases and weatherproof control panels, with DC sockets on both ends so the cable can run whichever way the fridge sits. They run from 0°F to 50°F, take 12/24V DC or 110-120V AC, and have a USB port for charging devices while running on DC. The trade-off for the steel case is weight.
- VL35ProS — 37 qt single zone, 48.6 lb. The basket takes items up to 11 in tall.
- VL45ProS — 47.5 qt single zone, interior LED light, 52.1 lb, black or grey. Fits items up to 13 in tall.
- VL45ProD — the dual zone version of the 45 at 45 qt (42.5 L), with a removable partition so it can also run as one zone, 53.4 lb, black or grey.
- VL60ProS — 63 qt single zone with Max and Eco modes and 3-level battery protection, 59.0 lb.
- VL75ProD — 79 qt dual zone with two lids and two USB ports, 69.6 lb, black or olive. The best all-round size for a family trip or a week off grid.
- VL90ProD — 95 qt dual zone with two lids, 75.0 lb. The biggest chest fridge in the ICECO range we carry.
BF series: a fridge with a front door
The BF65 (66 qt) and BF86 (91 qt) are upright fridges with a front door rather than a lid. That makes them the better choice where a chest fridge would be awkward, such as inside a van build, a camper cabinet or a truck canopy where you cannot lift a lid.
Both run a SECOP compressor with Max and Eco modes, have a reversible door you can hinge left or right, connect to the ICECO app over Bluetooth, and keep working at sustained angles up to 40 degrees. They are 12/24V DC only, with no AC input, and they convert between a freezer-plus-fridge layout (freezer at 14°F or below, fridge 32°F to 50°F) and a single compartment at 21°F to 50°F.
The specialists
- IPT20 — a 19.2 qt upright fridge freezer shaped to stand in a pickup cab or bed, with wheels, a telescoping handle and damped lid hinges. -4°F to 68°F, 12/24V DC only, 29.8 lb.
- GOPack12 — a 13.5 qt compressor fridge in a soft, waterproof TPU carry pack. It holds 16 standard cans, cools down to 21°F with no ice, runs on 12V DC, weighs 15.7 lb, and has a pocket for ICECO's optional 250Wh battery. For the beach, the boat or a day away from the camper.
- VL45PLUS — a 44.4 qt single zone fridge with three ways in: the lid opens left or right or lifts off, and there is a side drawer. It adds an 8 mm vacuum insulation panel, an internal LED light, tie-down points and Apple CarPlay control alongside the app. It runs on 12/24V DC.
Powering an ICECO in an RV
Every ICECO here runs on 12V DC, so it can run straight from your house battery or a power station. Most also run on household AC, but not all: the BF65, BF86, IPT20 and VL45PLUS are DC only, and the GOPack12 is 12V DC.
ICECO publishes lab energy figures for several models, for example 0.293 kWh a day for the APL20, 0.326 kWh for the APL55, 0.380 kWh for the APL35 and 0.433 kWh for the IPT20 and BF models. Real use goes up with hot weather, frequent lid openings and warm food going in, so size your battery with a margin. Our guide to how many lithium batteries you need off grid walks through the math.
Away from the vehicle, ICECO's PB250 magnetic power bank is a 250Wh battery with a 12V DC output of up to 10A, made to run ICECO fridges.
Slides and covers: what fits what
A slide mount lets you pull a heavy fridge out of a truck bed or a storage bay instead of reaching in. An insulated cover protects the case and adds insulation, which saves battery. They are model-specific, so match them carefully:
- Slide for VL35ProS / VL45ProS / APL35 — also fits the VL45 and JP Pro fridges.
- Slide for APL55 / VL60ProS.
- Side-pull slide for VL75ProD / VL90ProD — includes 4 straps.
- Insulated covers: APL20, APL35, APL55, VL35ProS, VL45ProS, VL60ProS, VL75ProD and VL90ProD. The VL75ProD cover does not fit the VL90ProD; each has its own.
FAQ
Which ICECO is best for a travel trailer?
For a couple, the APL55 gives you 58 qt that can run dual or single zone. For a family or a longer trip, the VL75ProD adds space and two lids. If the fridge has to go in a cabinet rather than on the floor, look at the BF65 or BF86.
APL or VL Pro?
APL if weight matters, because you will lift it in and out or you are watching payload: the aluminum APL35 is 32 lb against 48.6 lb for the steel VL35ProS at the same 37 qt. VL Pro if it lives in a truck bed or gets knocked around, and if you want DC sockets on both ends.
Can an ICECO run as a freezer?
Yes. The APL and IPT20 models go down to -4°F and the VL Pro models to 0°F. On a dual zone model you can run one side as a freezer and the other as a fridge.
Does it need to be level?
No. That is one of the main advantages over an absorption RV fridge. ICECO rates the APL55, BF65 and BF86 to work at up to 40 degrees of tilt.
What warranty do ICECO fridges have?
ICECO puts a 5-year warranty on the compressor, and most models carry 12 months on other parts. Check each listing for the exact terms.
