Overlanding Trailer Essentials: Recovery, Suspension & Storage

The gear that keeps an overland trailer rolling: recovery boards, off-road suspension, fuel and water storage, and couplers - what to carry and why. Ships from Upland, CA.

An overland trailer is only as capable as the gear that keeps it moving when the track gets rough. Whether you tow a Black Series, MDC, Opus, or a custom build, these are the essentials worth carrying - and upgrading. Browse the full overlanding & 4WD gear collection.

Recovery gear

When a wheel digs in, recovery tracks (traction boards) get you out of sand, mud, and snow without a tow. Pair them with proper rated shackles and recovery points. This is the cheapest insurance against a ruined trip.

Off-road suspension

Suspension takes the worst of the abuse off-road. Quality shocks and springs keep the trailer planted and protect everything bolted to it - see brakes, suspension, tyres & wheels and performance options like Radflo shocks. Re-torque suspension hardware regularly; vibration loosens bolts.

Fuel & water storage

Range matters off the grid. Rugged Wavian NATO jerry cans carry fuel safely, and adequate water tanks and pumps keep you supplied - see RV water systems.

Couplers & towing

An articulating Cruisemaster coupler lets the trailer move with the terrain - see DO35 vs DO45 to choose.

Power for longer trips

The further out you go, the more a solid off-grid power system matters. See how to build one.
