Black Series HQ19 Parts Guide: What Breaks and How to Fix It

The Black Series HQ19 is one of the most capable off-road campers in its class — and a complex piece of equipment. After 12–24 months of serious use, certain parts wear out predictably. This guide covers what HQ19 owners replace most often, what causes the wear, and where to source replacements.

Suspension Components

Jockey Wheel

The jockey wheel takes a pounding during campsite manoeuvring on gravel sites. ARK XO350 or XO500 is standard fitment. Common failures: leg won't lock at height (clamp mechanism worn — replace immediately), wheel won't roll smoothly (bearing failure), corroded leg tube seizing the height adjustment.

Replacement: ARK XO500 recommended for the HQ19's heavier nose weight. Direct swap — same tube clamp dimensions.

Suspension Bushes

Rubber pivot bushes at the suspension arm mounts compress under sustained off-road use. Symptoms: clunking over bumps, uneven tyre wear, lateral movement in the suspension arm. Inspect annually; typically replace every 30,000–50,000 km (~18,600–31,100 miles) depending on terrain.

Brake Shoes

Electric drum brakes are standard. Wear depends heavily on brake controller sensitivity — an over-adjusted controller scrubs shoes during flat-ground braking. Replace at 2mm (~0.08 in) lining remaining.

Water System

Water Pump

12V diaphragm pumps eventually develop valve or diaphragm failure. Service life is 2–5 years. Symptoms: pump runs but pressure is low, pump cycles rapidly when no tap is open, no flow despite pump running. Match voltage (12V) and flow rate (3–4 GPM) when ordering replacement.

Water Mixing Valve

The thermostatic mixing valve blends hot and cold water to prevent scalding. Rubber seals deteriorate over time. Symptoms: water temperature varies unpredictably or no longer maintains set temperature.

Entry Door and Locks

Door Lock Assembly

The entry door lock sees heavy use. Most common failure: latch mechanism becomes stiff or lock cylinder becomes difficult to turn. On 2019–2021 HQ Series campers, the lock assembly is a specific OEM part — a direct replacement keeps the existing key working.

Door Seals

The rubber seal around the main entry door compresses over time. Symptoms: draughts, condensation on the door frame, or increased road noise. The profile matters — replace with OEM-spec door seal rubber.

12V Electrical

Fridge Vent Fan

The 12V fan forcing airflow through the fridge compartment is a wear item. Dual ball-bearing fans last 3–5 years. A failed fan reduces fridge efficiency noticeably in hot weather.

Solar Panel Mounts

Sealant around solar panel mounting feet cracks within 2–4 years of UV exposure. Inspect annually and reseal with Lap Sealant at the first sign of cracking — this is a water ingress point into the roof.

Key Tip: Specify Your Model Year

The HQ19 changed significantly in 2022 — suspension geometry, door lock spec, and electrical system all changed. Always specify your build year when ordering parts to ensure correct fitment.
