DualPRO Professional Series vs Sportsman HF Chargers

A side-by-side of the DualPRO Professional Series (15A per bank, PROVolt or AutoProfile) and the lighter Sportsman HF (10A per bank, selectable lithium).

DualPRO makes two lines of multi-bank marine chargers that look alike on paper: the Professional Series and the newer Sportsman HF. Both give each 12V battery its own independent bank, both are IP67 waterproof, and both carry a 3-year warranty. The differences are output per bank, size and weight, cord length, and how they handle lithium. This is the side-by-side for the models we carry.

The short answer

  • Choose the Professional Series for 15A per bank, a one-bank option (PS1), and automatic battery detection on the AutoProfile models.
  • Choose the Sportsman HF if weight and space matter more than charge rate: 10A per bank, a much lighter, flatter case and longer cords, with lithium selectable on every bank.

Specs are from DualPRO's spec sheet and product pages. DualPRO's PS4 page lists 7.25 in high, while its PS4AUTO page and spec sheet list 6 in, so measure your mounting spot with some room to spare. DualPRO's PS3AUTO page also lists 25 lb against 22.5 lb in its spec sheet.

Output: 15A or 10A per bank

This is the biggest practical difference. Both lines charge every bank at the same time, so the per-bank figure is what each battery actually gets. As a rough guide, putting back 50Ah takes about 3.3 hours at 15A and about 5 hours at 10A, plus the finishing stage. For overnight charging between fishing days, 10A per bank is usually enough. For large batteries, or when you need to turn the boat around between morning and afternoon sessions, 15A gives you more margin.

Weight and size

Here the Sportsman HF wins clearly. A four-bank SS4HF weighs 11.2 lb against 29.8 lb for a PS4, and at 3.25 in high it fits under decks and in compartments where a Professional Series case won't. DualPRO describes the HF as smaller and lighter than its legacy Sportsman Series.

Lithium

A standard Professional Series charger (PROVolt) is listed for wet cell and AGM batteries only. If you run lithium, you have two DualPRO routes:

  • Professional Series AutoProfile (PS1AUTO, PS2AUTO, PS3AUTO, PS4AUTO): detects lithium, AGM or flooded on each bank and applies the matching charge profile, with nothing to set.
  • Sportsman HF: you select lithium, wet cell or AGM for each bank yourself.

Both handle a mixed boat, such as a lithium trolling motor bank with an AGM cranking battery. More in charging lithium trolling motor batteries with DualPRO.

Built to be repaired

DualPRO describes the Professional Series as repairable rather than throw-away, and the spec sheet lists it as made in the USA. Both lines are built to the same marine safety approvals: zero-spark, reverse polarity protected and ignition protected.

Features both lines share

  • Fully independent banks that charge every battery at once
  • Zero-spark technology and reverse polarity protection
  • LED state-of-charge lights and on-board diagnostic codes
  • Multi-stage charging with a maintenance mode, so the boat can stay plugged in
  • Rated for fresh and salt water

Three example boats

  • Jon boat or small skiff, 12V trolling motor and a cranking battery: two banks. The SS2HF at 7.2 lb is easy to fit; the PS2 or PS2AUTO gives 15A per bank if you want faster turnarounds.
  • Bass boat, 24V trolling motor and a cranking battery: three banks. If the trolling batteries are lithium and the cranking battery is AGM, the PS3AUTO sorts that out by itself; the SS3HF does it with each bank set by hand.
  • Tournament boat, 36V lithium trolling motor and a cranking battery: four banks. The PS4AUTO gives 15A to each battery; the SS4HF saves about 18.6 lb if 10A per bank is enough for your schedule.

Which number of banks?

That depends on how many 12V batteries you want to charge, not on which line you choose. Our guide which DualPRO charger do I need has a table from a single battery up to a 48V trolling motor.

FAQ

Is there a one-bank Sportsman HF?

Not in the range we carry. For a single 12V battery, the options are the PS1 and PS1AUTO.

Can I mount either one on board?

Yes. Both are waterproof chargers built for boats, and DualPRO says the Professional Series has no mounting restrictions. The Sportsman HF comes with mounting hardware.

Which one charges lithium faster?

Per bank, the Professional Series AutoProfile models deliver 15A and the Sportsman HF 10A, so the AutoProfile puts amps back faster on the same battery.
