Which MaxxFan turns on by itself when the RV gets hot?

Answered by RV Parts Giant · Upland, CA · October 17, 2026

Short answer: Only the MaxxFan Deluxe line has a built-in thermostat; the standard MaxxFan and the MaxxFan Plus do not. The Deluxe also has a rain shield, so it can be left running unattended. For automatic control plus a remote with a programmable thermostat, pick the electric-lift Deluxe, 00-07000K (white) or 00-07500K (smoke).

A common reason to want this is leaving pets or gear in the RV for a few hours. Here is what each MaxxFan we stock can and cannot do on its own.

Thermostat by model

Model Part number Thermostat Speeds Direction Lid Remote
MaxxFan Deluxe, electric lift 00-07000K white, 00-07500K smoke Yes 10 Intake and exhaust Electric Yes, programmable thermostat
MaxxFan Deluxe, manual lift 00-05100K white, 00-06200K smoke Yes 10 Intake and exhaust Manual No
MaxxFan Deluxe, 4-speed 00-05301K white, 00-06401K smoke No 4 Exhaust only Manual No
MaxxFan Plus 00-04000K, 00-04002K, 00-04500K No, per MaxxAir's current model table (its 2025 catalog chart shows one) 4 or 10 Intake and exhaust Manual or electric 00-04500K only
MaxxFan (standard) 00A04301K, 00A04401K No 4 Exhaust only Manual No

Why the rain shield matters when you are away

A thermostat fan runs when nobody is there to close it. Every Deluxe has a built-in rain cover over the fan, so a passing storm does not soak the bed while the fan is running. A Plus with an open lid would need a FanMate cover or its rain sensor (00-04500K only) to be safe unattended.

Intake or exhaust

On the 10-speed Deluxe the fan reverses. Exhaust pulls hot air out through the roof and draws outside air in through any window you leave cracked. Intake pushes outside air down into the RV. Either way, the fan moves outside air; it does not cool it.

What a fan cannot do

A roof fan cannot make the inside cooler than the air outside. On a hot day a parked RV with only a fan running will still be at least as hot as the shade outside it, and usually hotter in direct sun. For pets on hot days, a fan is a backup to air conditioning and a temperature alarm, not a replacement for either.

Power

The MaxxFan runs on 12V from the house battery and is fuse protected. Make sure the battery can carry the fan for as long as you will be away, and check that the 12V fuse for the fan circuit is intact before relying on it.
