Good roof ventilation is the cheapest comfort upgrade an RV can get. A 12V vent fan moves hot air, cooking smells, and — critically — moisture out of the cabin for a tiny fraction of the power an air conditioner draws, which is why experienced boondockers run their vent fan constantly and their AC rarely. Carbonogy's new fan line gives you two ways in.
Why a Powered Vent Fan (Not Just a Vent)
A passive vent lets air drift; a powered fan exchanges it. That means: cooler sleeping without running the AC off your battery bank, condensation control in winter (the difference between damp bedding and a dry camper), fast smoke/odor clearing when cooking, and positive airflow that pulls a breeze through an open window even on still nights. On a lithium-and-solar rig, a vent fan draws roughly 1–3A — an AC draws over 100A through an inverter. That math is the whole argument.
Carbonogy 12V Roof Vent Fan (LCD Control)
The standard Carbonogy 12V vent fan covers the essentials properly: multi-speed 12V motor, an LCD control panel, a rain cover so you can keep venting in weather (crucial — fans you must close when it rains stop being used), and a washable filter that keeps dust and bugs out of the cabin, which off-road travel supplies in quantity. It fits the standard 14" x 14" roof opening used on Black Series HQ trailers and most US campers — a direct upgrade from a passive vent or a tired old fan.
Carbonogy PLUS FAN 360 (Remote + Reversible + LED)
The PLUS FAN 360 x 360mm adds the three features people actually wish for after living with a basic fan: a remote control (change speed from bed at 2am), reversible airflow (exhaust hot air in summer, draw fresh air in without wind-chill in winter), and an integrated LED light, turning the roof opening into your main cabin light. If the fan is going over the bed or main living area, the PLUS FAN is worth the difference.

- Kitchen/bathroom vent, budget upgrade: the standard LCD fan — rain cover + filter make it the workhorse.
- Over the bed or lounge: PLUS FAN 360 — remote + reversible flow + light earn their keep daily.
- Best setup for full-timers: one of each — exhaust at the kitchen, intake over the bed, creating constant cross-flow through the camper.
Installation Notes
Both fans fit the standard 14x14 cutout: remove the old vent, clean the flange, bed the new fan on quality sealant, screw down, and connect to a fused 12V circuit (see our fuses collection). It's a two-hour DIY job, and while you're on the roof it's the right moment to inspect all your seals — our roof maintenance range covers sealants and covers.
