Use and care
The hooked tip is for moving logs and coals, not for prying rocks or splitting wood; used for what it is made for, a steel poker outlasts the trailer. Let it cool completely before it goes back in a locker, and knock the ash off first so it does not grind into everything else stored there. If the steel picks up surface rust after a wet trip, a wipe with an oily rag brings it back. Never leave a poker resting in the fire between uses; the handle end gets hot enough to burn.
