Best High-Capacity RV Lithium Battery: Eco-Worthy 280Ah vs LiTime vs Renogy vs Battle Born

Shopping for a 280Ah-class LiFePO4 battery for your RV or trailer? We compare the Eco-Worthy 12V 280Ah metal-case battery against LiTime, Renogy, and Battle Born — honestly, including when a competitor is the better buy.

Eco Worthy 12V 280Ah LiFePO4 lithium battery

The short version: the Eco-Worthy 12V 280Ah Metal Case LiFePO4 Battery gives you the most amp-hours per dollar of any name-brand lithium battery we've priced, in a metal enclosure that doesn't need a battery box. We stock it with free U.S. shipping & free 30-day returns — and it's covered by our Lowest Price Guarantee: found it cheaper? We'll beat it. Take 5% off your first order with code RVSAFE5.

A high-capacity 12V lithium battery is the single biggest upgrade you can make to an off-grid RV or travel trailer power system. One 280Ah LiFePO4 battery stores as much usable energy as roughly four to five 100Ah lead-acid batteries (lead-acid shouldn't be discharged below ~50%), at a fraction of the weight. But the 280Ah-class market has real differences in case design, BMS rating, and support — and the right pick depends on your rig. Here's how the main options actually compare.

What matters in a high-capacity LiFePO4 battery

  • Usable energy (Wh), not just Ah. Amp-hours × voltage = watt-hours. A 12.8V × 280Ah battery stores 3,584Wh — enough to run a 100W fridge for a day and a half, or a 1,000W appliance for about 3 hours through an inverter.
  • BMS continuous current. A 200A BMS supports roughly 2,500W of continuous inverter draw at 12V. If you plan to run a large inverter (3,000W+), you need a higher-rated BMS or batteries in parallel.
  • Case design. Most lithium batteries use ABS plastic cases. A metal enclosure adds heat resistance, crush protection, and vibration resistance — and can be mounted directly without a separate battery box.
  • Low-temperature protection. Charging LiFePO4 cells below freezing damages them permanently. A BMS with low-temp cutoff protects the investment; self-heating models go further for four-season campers.
  • Monitoring. Bluetooth app monitoring lets you check state of charge, voltage, and current from your phone instead of guessing from a voltmeter.

Eco-Worthy 12V 280Ah Metal Case — the value pick

The Eco-Worthy 280Ah checks every box above: 3,584Wh of storage, a 200A smart BMS, Bluetooth monitoring, low-temperature charge protection, and LiFePO4 cells rated for thousands of cycles — in a heavy-duty metal case that's rated to go straight into an RV battery compartment with no battery box, with 4 mounting feet included. It also has a feature none of the others in this comparison offer: a one-touch safety switch that fully disconnects battery output for installation, maintenance, or storage — no pulling terminal lugs. At 68.5 lb it's heavy, but that's the trade for 280Ah of prismatic cells in a steel shell. We sell it with free shipping and free 30-day returns.

LiTime — the form-factor specialist

LiTime is probably Eco-Worthy's closest rival in value lithium, and they earn their reputation. Their current U.S. lineup brackets the 280Ah class with a 230Ah Group 4D pack and a 320Ah "Mini" — both with 200A BMS, Bluetooth, low-temp protection, and an IP65 waterproof housing, with very high claimed cycle life. When LiTime is the right buy: if your battery lives somewhere wet (open boat, exposed tongue box), the IP65-rated plastic housing is a genuine advantage over any vented metal case, and their compact Group 31 / Mini form factors fit tight compartments that a full-size 280Ah brick won't. Expect to pay meaningfully more per amp-hour, especially for the 320Ah Mini.

Two LiTime batteries we now carry fit this comparison. The 12V 230Ah Bluetooth stores 2,944Wh with a 200A continuous BMS in a 19.02 × 6.69 × 9.45 in case, and the 12V 320Ah Mini holds 4,096Wh in 14.49 × 7.44 × 10.04 in at 57.17 lb, also on a 200A BMS. Both are IP65 with low-temperature cut-off, carry a 5-year LiTime warranty and ships free from our warehouse in Upland, California to the lower 48 states.

Renogy — the ecosystem play

Renogy now does field a high-capacity pack: the Core Mini 12.8V 300Ah stores 3,840Wh (more than the 280Ah class), and the Pro 12V 100Ah/200Ah Smart LiFePO4 adds Bluetooth, low-temperature protection and self-heating options. What Renogy really sells, though, is the most complete one-brand ecosystem in RV solar: panels, Rover MPPT controllers, DC-DC chargers, inverters and monitoring designed to work together. When Renogy is the right buy: you’re building a whole system from scratch and want one brand, one app and one support line for everything — or you want self-heating for four-season use. On pure capacity per dollar the Eco-Worthy 280Ah is still the value pick: the Renogy 300Ah costs roughly twice as much for 7% more storage. Browse the full Renogy range if the one-brand system matters more than the lowest price per amp-hour.

Battle Born — the premium American option

Battle Born is the premium name in RV lithium, and the premium is real: U.S.-based assembly and support, a long warranty, and strong specs — their 270Ah GC3 packs support 300A continuous discharge, more than any battery in this comparison, which matters if you're running a large inverter hard. When Battle Born is the right buy: you want top-tier support and warranty backing from a U.S. company and the price difference isn't the deciding factor. For most weekend and seasonal RVers, though, the price gap buys a lot of solar panels.

Honest bottom line

Buy the Eco-Worthy 280Ah metal case if you want the most storage per dollar in a tough, box-free enclosure with a proper output disconnect switch — for most RV and travel-trailer owners, that's the answer. Choose LiTime for wet or space-constrained installs, Renogy if you're committing to a single-brand system, and Battle Born if maximum continuous output and white-glove U.S. support justify the premium. FAQ

Is 280Ah enough to run my RV off-grid?

3,584Wh comfortably runs lights, fans, a 12V fridge, water pump, and device charging for 2–3 days without recharging. Add solar and it can run indefinitely for those loads. Air conditioning is the exception — a rooftop AC will drain any single 12V battery in a couple of hours.

Do I need a battery box for a metal-case battery?

No — the metal enclosure is designed for direct installation in a battery compartment or under a seat, which is one of the main advantages over plastic-cased packs. The Eco-Worthy 280Ah includes 4 mounting feet for exactly this.

Can my existing converter/charger charge a lithium battery?

Only if it has a LiFePO4 charge profile (14.4–14.6V). Many older RV converters are lead-acid only and will chronically undercharge lithium. A lithium-compatible converter or DC-DC charger is a worthwhile companion upgrade.

What does the 200A BMS limit mean in practice?

About 2,500W of continuous draw at 12V nominal. That supports a 2,000W inverter with headroom. For a 3,000W inverter, run two batteries in parallel.
