SOK Victron CAN Batteries: SK12V314PH vs SK24V150PH

SOK's two Victron CAN batteries compared from SOK's pages: what SOK says the CAN link shares, included cables, charge and discharge limits, IP67 and fire suppression, and what the Victron Cerbo GX side needs (from our Victron listings and the DVCC guide).

Two of the SOK batteries we stock talk to Victron equipment over CAN: the 12V 314Ah SK12V314PH and the 24V 150Ah SK24V150PH. This guide covers what SOK says those batteries do with a Victron system, what the Victron side needs, and how the two compare. SOK's claims are SOK's. Facts about Victron gear come from our Victron listings and the Victron manuals our existing guides quote.

What SOK says the CAN link does

SOK's product pages say the SK12V314PH supports the CAN protocol for "seamless communication and integration with Victron inverters". They say the SK24V150PH does the same with the Victron Cerbo GX. SOK's home page says its batteries share key parameters "such as voltage, current, and state of charge" directly with Victron inverters and monitoring devices. It says this simplifies setup and improves charge and discharge control.

If it works as SOK describes, the battery's own readings should appear on the Victron screen and in the VRM portal alongside your solar and inverter data. Without a CAN link, those numbers come from a separate battery monitor.

SOK's pages don't list the exact CAN values the battery sends or the settings to use on the Victron side. SOK's user manual and spec sheet for each model cover setup. SOK's support list also includes guides on programming a Victron SmartShunt and a MultiPlus-II for SOK batteries. Ask us for the manual for your model before you order.

SOK says both are designed to comply with applicable ABYC standards, including ABYC E-13, and both list UL1973 and IEC62619 for the cells and UN38.3 for shipping. Usable energy is our estimate: Ah x 12.8V or 25.6V x 0.9.

Which one fits your system

  • A 12V Victron system, such as a 12V MultiPlus or MultiPlus-II: the SK12V314PH. One battery holds a little more usable energy than three 100Ah batteries, by our estimate (about 3,617 Wh against 3,456 Wh). Its 200A continuous rating covers about 2,400 W at 12V as a rough estimate (200 x 12).
  • A 24V Victron system: the SK24V150PH. The same 200A is about 4,800 W at 24V (200 x 24), and the same power needs half the current, so cables and fuses get smaller. Our Victron MultiPlus 24V guide covers the inverter side.
  • A 48V bank: four SK12V314PH in series or two SK24V150PH in series, per SOK's series limits. Ask us before building a 48V bank, so we can check the inverter and charge settings with SOK.

Check the inverter's surge needs against SOK's peak figures. Fuse each battery or the bank to match the cable. Our guide on Class T vs ANL or MEGA fuses covers the choice.

What the Victron side needs

The Cerbo GX is Victron's system hub. Our Cerbo GX MK2 and Cerbo GX MK3 listings show two VE.Can ports, which can also be set to other CAN profiles, plus three VE.Direct ports and VE.Bus for a MultiPlus or Quattro. It runs on 8 to 70 VDC. For a plain-terms overview, read what a Victron Cerbo GX does. For the wiring, see how to wire a Cerbo GX and Lynx Distributor.

SOK's accessory pages say each battery comes with a 6 ft communication cable for the Cerbo GX and a 1 ft cable for linking batteries. If the battery sits farther from the Cerbo, or batteries aren't side by side, SOK also makes longer cables. We don't stock those, so ask us if your layout needs one.

Where DVCC comes in

Victron's DVCC setting lets a GX device coordinate charging. Victron's documentation says that with a managed lithium battery on a CAN-bus BMS, the battery sends charge voltage, charge current and discharge current limits. The inverter/chargers, solar chargers and Orion XS chargers then follow the battery instead of their own settings. Our DVCC explainer covers when to turn it on. SOK says its CAN batteries share voltage, current and state of charge. It doesn't say in text which charge limits each model sends, so follow SOK's manual for the DVCC and battery-profile settings.

If you don't run Victron

You can still use either battery as a standard LiFePO4 battery with SOK's Bluetooth app. If CAN doesn't matter to you, SOK's SK12V280H is the closest 12V alternative: 280Ah, heated, aluminum case, 120A charge and 200A discharge. It doesn't have the IP67 rating, fire suppressor or CAN link. Our which SOK battery guide compares all eight models, and the full range is on the SOK Battery collection page.

FAQ

Does the SK12V314PH work with a Cerbo GX, or only a Victron inverter?

SOK's 314PH page says CAN communication with a Victron inverter. SOK also sells a 314PH-to-Cerbo GX cable and says each battery includes a 6 ft communication cable for the Cerbo, so a Cerbo connection is clearly intended. Follow SOK's manual for the port and profile.

Do I still need a SmartShunt?

SOK's text doesn't say. SOK does publish a guide to programming a Victron SmartShunt for its batteries. Our BMV-712 vs SmartShunt guide explains what a shunt measures.

Can I parallel several SK24V150PH on one Cerbo GX?

SOK says up to 10 in parallel and supplies a 1 ft inter-battery cable with each battery. Ask us for SOK's manual for how a multi-battery bank reports to the Cerbo.

Are these good for boats?

SOK says both are designed to comply with applicable ABYC standards including E-13, and both are IP67. See our SOK marine battery guide for how they compare with the sealed 206Ah.
