OutEquipPro Summit 2 vs Glacier Pro: Which Rooftop AC?

A side-by-side of OutEquipPro's two rooftop air conditioners, the low-profile Summit 2 and the larger Glacier Pro, on the figures OutEquipPro publishes.

OutEquipPro makes two families of rooftop air conditioner for vans, campers and trailers: the low-profile Summit 2 and the larger Glacier Pro. Both sit on the roof as one self-contained unit with the refrigerant already inside, both come with or without heat, and both fit a 14.1 x 14.1 inch roof fan opening. They suit different rigs, though. This guide compares them on the numbers OutEquipPro publishes, so you can pick the one that matches your roof, your battery and your climate.

The short answer

  • Pick the Summit 2 if roof space, height and weight matter most, you are replacing a 14 x 14 roof fan, or your house bank is 24V or 48V.
  • Pick the Glacier Pro 12V if you want more cooling on 12V and real heat from a heat pump, and your roof has room for a bigger unit.
  • Pick the Glacier Pro 110V if the RV mostly runs on shore power or a generator and you want 15,000 BTU of cooling with a heat pump.

Figures from OutEquipPro's product pages and 2026 installation guides for each model.

Size, height and roof space

The Summit 2 stands 6.3 inches tall on a 28.3 inch square footprint, and the rooftop unit weighs 43 lb (45 lb with the indoor panel). The Glacier Pro is 7.1 inches tall, 35.4 x 34.6 inches and 65 lb, plus a 3 lb indoor trim. On a van roof where every inch goes to solar, that difference is often the deciding factor. OutEquipPro asks for at least 2 inches of clearance on the left, right and rear of the Summit 2, and 2 to 3 inches around the Glacier Pro, so measure for the unit plus clearance before you plan panels around it.

Both installation guides also give the distance from the air duct to each edge of the unit, which tells you how far it reaches past the opening. Summit 2: 4.9 inches forward, 14.4 rearward, 7.3 left and 7 right. Glacier Pro: 5.9 forward, 13.6 rearward and 10.2 on each side.

Roof opening

Both fit a 14.1 x 14.1 inch opening, the size OutEquipPro gives for a standard RV roof fan. The Summit 2 also accepts a smaller rectangle down to 14.1 x 10.3 inches and openings up to 16.5 x 15.7 inches. The Glacier Pro needs at least 14.1 x 13.7 inches and accepts up to 28.7 x 22.8 inches. In a 14.1 x 14.1 opening, the Glacier Pro guide has you drill four M8 rod holes and four M6 trim holes using the supplied template; it recommends an 18.1 x 14.1 inch opening for an easier job, because the mounting holes are then reachable from inside and no drilling is needed. For the Summit 2 steps, see installing a Summit 2 in a 14x14 roof vent opening.

Heating: PTC heater or heat pump

The Summit 2's optional heater is a 4,500 BTU PTC element that OutEquipPro describes as supplementary warmth for cooler weather. It draws 50 A on the 12V model, so treat it as a way to take the chill off rather than a winter furnace on battery. The Glacier Pro's option is a reverse-cycle heat pump rated 8,500 BTU on 12V and 12,000 BTU on 110V. OutEquipPro says it heats efficiently above 36°F, so you can heat without propane in mild weather; below that, plan on another heat source. The Summit 2 guide also warns against using cooling when it is below 40°F outside, because frost can form inside the unit.

Power draw on 12V

OutEquipPro rates the 12V Summit 2 at 58 A in Turbo, 21 A in Eco and Sleep, 4.5 A fan only and 50 A heating, and the 12V Glacier Pro at 22 to 62 A. The Glacier Pro's top draw is a little higher for 1,500 more BTU. For its 12V units OutEquipPro notes that most starter batteries cannot carry the continuous Turbo draw, and recommends a LiFePO4 battery with a 100 A or larger BMS (the note appears on the Glacier Pro page and on the Summit Flex page, which shares the Summit 2 platform). For runtimes on 230, 460 and 630Ah banks, see how much battery an OutEquipPro 12V AC needs.

The 110V Glacier Pro draws 5 to 11 A from shore power or a generator through a 12 AWG cord, and OutEquipPro specifies 20 A maximum overcurrent protection.

Noise and controls

OutEquipPro lists 53/48/40 dB (high, medium, low) for the Summit 2 and 58/50/43 dB for the Glacier Pro. The Summit 2 uses brushless fans on the condenser and evaporator and four spring mounts under the compressor. The Glacier Pro adds an electronic expansion valve, a dual centrifugal blower, a sealed air box and an auto-swing outlet. Both have Turbo, Eco, Sleep and Fan modes, a remote and LED night lights, and OutEquipPro lists Bluetooth app control for the Summit 2 and the 12V Glacier Pro.
