At 8,000 lb a DeeMaxx conversion stops being one kit per rating. The rotor/hub, caliper and bearings are the same across all 8K kits, but the caliper bracket is made for a specific axle family and the rotor/hub is drilled for a specific stud size. Get those two codes right, 8KD or 8KA and 9T or 10T, and the kit bolts on. This guide explains what each code means, how to read your axle, and which DeeMaxx kits exist for each combination. The parts are in the DeeMaxx range, or answer four questions in the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit Finder.
8KD and 8KA: the bracket follows the axle brand
The caliper bracket bolts to the brake flange on the axle, and 8,000 lb axles from different makers use different flanges. DeeMaxx makes two 8K brackets for its integral rotor/hubs, plus the 8KDD bracket for slip-over rotors:
- DBB-8KD-MAXX for Dexter and Lippert 8K axles. DeeMaxx lists it for Dexter hub numbers 008-399-05 through 008-399-08, and describes its 8KD single-wheel kits as fitting "8,000 lbs Dexter/Lippert" axles. The stainless version is DBB-8KD-SS. The DBB-8KDD brackets are for the 8KDD stainless kits, which put a slip-over rotor on a DeeMaxx galvanized hub.
- DBB-8KA-MAXX for Al-Ko and Quality 8K axles; our listings also name Axis. DeeMaxx lists it as fitting both its integral rotor/hub and its slip-over rotors.
Both brackets take the same CALP-7-8K caliper, and everything else in an 8K kit is identical, which is why the two families share the same rotor/hub, bearings, seal, cap and hardware.
9T and 10T: the studs are in the hub
DeeMaxx's 8K integral rotor/hubs come with the wheel studs fitted, so the stud size is chosen when you choose the rotor/hub:
- 9T: 9/16"-18 wheel studs, rotor/hub RTR/HUB-131-8KT-.56-MAXX, with LNOZ-9/16 lug nuts in the kit.
- 10T: 5/8"-18 wheel studs, rotor/hub RTR/HUB-131-8KT-.62-MAXX, with LNOZ-5/8 lug nuts.
The .56 and .62 in the part number are the stud diameters in decimal inches (9/16" is 0.5625", 5/8" is 0.625"). Both use the 8 on 6.5" bolt pattern. Measure the thread on one of your existing studs or read the size off a lug nut. If your wheels are drilled for 5/8" studs, the 10T kit is the one; wheels for 9/16" studs take 9T.
T means a threaded oil hub
The T after the stud code means the rotor/hub is threaded 2-7/8"-12 for a screw-in cap. Every 9T and 10T kit includes the AT-6-8K-LC Lexan cap with a Viton O-ring, which DeeMaxx rates for oil bath or grease on 6K, 7K and 8K axles. So an 8K DeeMaxx kit suits an oil-bath axle or a greased one; the cap is the same. We list the non-threaded grease rotor/hubs, RTR/HUB-131-8KNT-.56-MAXX and -.62-MAXX, as parts only; DeeMaxx also builds kits on them (1/DBI-7K-9-NT-MAXX-KIT and the DBI-8KD9-NT, 8KD10-NT, 8KA9-NT and 8KA10-NT one-axle sets) that we do not carry. More on the two hub types in oil-bath vs grease hubs on 7,000 lb axles.
Is it a 7K or an 8K axle? Check the outer bearing
Both 7K and 8K DeeMaxx hubs use the 8 on 6.5" bolt pattern and the 25580 inner bearing, so the wheels and the inner bearing do not settle it. The outer bearing does: a 7,000 lb spindle takes the 14125A outer bearing on a 14276 race, while an 8,000 lb spindle takes the 02475 outer on a 02420 race. DeeMaxx's 8K hubs list 25580 and 02475 bearings, 25520 and 02420 races and a 2250DLR seal. The bearing numbers are on the cones; our answers page which bearings fit an 8,000 lb trailer axle walks through reading them.
One wrinkle: the 7K-9T kits, for 7,000 lb axles with 9/16" studs, use the same 8K threaded rotor/hub, RTR/HUB-131-8KT-.56-MAXX, with the 7K bracket DBB-7K-MAXX, and include the 02475 outer bearing rather than the 14125A. Check your spindle rather than assuming a 7K axle takes the 14125A.

A master kit is the EOHA1600 actuator (EOHA1600XL on the triple kits), the tandem or triple line kit and one single-wheel kit per wheel. For an Al-Ko/Axis tandem, or any stainless 8K build, order the single-wheel kits, the actuator and the DOT-TA20K or DOT-TR20K line kit separately; the Kit Finder does the arithmetic.
What is in an 8K single-wheel kit
DeeMaxx lists the contents of 1/DBI-8KD-9T-MAXX-KIT as one RTR/HUB-131-8KT-.56-MAXX rotor/hub, one CALP-7-8K-MAXX caliper, one DBB-8KD-MAXX bracket, one 02475 and one 25580 bearing, one AT-6-8K-LC cap, one 2250DL grease seal, four DBB-8K-SS bracket bolts with four nuts, eight LNOZ-9/16 lug nuts and one DC-RPY rubber plug, 61 lb boxed. The 8KA kit is identical except for the DBB-8KA-MAXX bracket. etrailer's listing of the equivalent DeeMaxx hub/rotor describes it as arriving with bearings, races and seal, so the wheel end is complete apart from the actuator and lines.
Reading your axle in five steps
- Rating: the axle tag, or the outer bearing number (14125A means 7K, 02475 means 8K).
- Brand: Dexter or Lippert means 8KD; Al-Ko, Axis or Quality means 8KA. Photograph the brake flange if the axle tag is gone.
- Stud size: 9/16" or 5/8".
- Hub today: threaded oil cap or dust cap. A DeeMaxx threaded rotor/hub with the Lexan cap replaces either.
- Finish: MAXX, MAXX-SS or stainless, see DeeMaxx MAXX vs stainless for saltwater boat trailers.
Send us the axle tag, the bearing numbers and a photo of the brake flange through contact us if anything is unclear, and we will confirm the kit before you order. DeeMaxx also builds 10,000 to 16,000 lb kits, which we do not currently list. How the rest of the part number reads is in DeeMaxx part numbers explained.
Frequently asked questions
Will the 8KD kit fit a Lippert 8,000 lb axle?
DeeMaxx describes the 8KD kits as fitting 8,000 lb Dexter/Lippert axles and lists the bracket against Dexter hub numbers 008-399-05 to 08. Confirm the brake flange before ordering.
Can I use a 9T kit on wheels drilled for 5/8" studs?
No. The studs are part of the rotor/hub, so choose 10T for 5/8" wheels and 9T for 9/16" wheels.
Do I need an oil-bath axle for the threaded hubs?
No. The AT-6-8K-LC cap in every 9T and 10T kit is rated for oil bath or grease.
Is there an 8K Al-Ko master kit?
No. 8KA conversions are built from single-wheel kits plus the actuator and line kit.
Which 8K lug nuts fit?
The kits include zinc LNOZ nuts in the matching size. Stainless closed-end 5/8"-18 nuts are sold as LNCSS-5/8-KIT-8; 9/16" stainless nuts are not in our range.
