MaxxFan Deluxe vs Plus vs Standard: Every Model Number

Every MaxxAir MaxxFan model we carry side by side, from MaxxAir's own model tables and manuals, with fit checks and which one suits which RV.

MaxxAir sells three families of 14 in x 14 in roof fan under the MaxxFan name, plus the newer Pivot. They all drop into the standard RV roof vent opening, so the choice comes down to four things: rain protection, intake as well as exhaust, a thermostat, and an electric lid with remote. This guide lists every model number we carry with the features MaxxAir publishes for it, from MaxxAir's current product family tables, its 2025 catalog and its installation manuals.

The short answer

  • MaxxFan (standard): a 4-speed exhaust-only fan with a manual lid. The simple, budget swap for a plain vent.
  • MaxxFan Plus: adds intake and exhaust, 4 or 10 speeds, and on one model an electric lid with remote and rain sensor. Like the standard fan, it needs a FanMate cover to run in the rain.
  • MaxxFan Deluxe: the only one with a built-in rain shield, so it can run in any weather and while you drive. The 10-speed versions add intake/exhaust and a thermostat; two add an electric lid and remote.

Speeds, direction, thermostat and remote come from MaxxAir's current MaxxFan and MaxxFan Deluxe model tables. One caution: a few of MaxxAir's single-product pages list the 4-speed Deluxe (00-05301K) as having a thermostat and an electric lid. MaxxAir's Deluxe model table shows no thermostat, and its installation manual shows the 5301K/6401K keypad with only fan on, speed and off keys and a manual lid knob, so we go with the table and manual. MaxxAir's sources also disagree on the Plus: its current model table and Plus product pages show no thermostat, but the feature chart in its 2025 catalog marks the 00-04002K, 00-04000K and 00-04500K with one. If a thermostat is the reason you're buying, choose a 10-speed Deluxe, the models every MaxxAir source agrees on.

What the MaxxFan, Plus and Deluxe share

  • Opening: the standard 14 in x 14 in RV roof opening.
  • Airflow: MaxxAir's 2025 catalog says the MaxxFan, Plus and Deluxe move over 900 CFM with a 12 in fan blade; its Deluxe page says the 10-speed Deluxe models move up to 900 CFM. The Pivot is rated at 400 CFM.
  • Ceiling fan mode: with the motor running, close the lid and the fan keeps circulating air inside.
  • Power: MaxxAir specifies a minimum 12 V DC, 5 A circuit. See MaxxFan wiring, power and controls.
  • Driving: MaxxAir says the lid can be open while driving on the MaxxFan, Plus and Deluxe, because twin lift arms support it; open it fully or close it fully when moving.
  • Warranty: MaxxAir's catalog lists a 2-year limited warranty with a lifetime limited warranty on the lid for the MaxxFan, Plus and Deluxe, limited to repair parts, not labor.

Rain: the real difference

The Deluxe has a hood built over the fan. MaxxAir calls it "the only fan on the market with a built-in rain shield" and says you can use it while it's raining or while driving. The standard MaxxFan and the Plus have molded, waterproof tabs on top for MaxxAir's FanMate cover, which clips on without tools and gives the same rain-or-shine use. MaxxAir's FAQ also says the FanMate can go over a Plus that has the rain sensor.

The rain sensor on the Plus 00-04500K turns off the fan and closes the lid when it detects moisture. It has limits: MaxxAir says it will not close a lid that was opened manually with the knob, and it can be switched off if you want to run in light rain. For an RV you leave with the vents open, a cover or the Deluxe's shield is the safer choice. Our answer on leaving a roof fan open in the rain goes through each setup.

Fit checks before you choose

MaxxFan and Plus Deluxe
Roof thickness 2 in to 6 1/2 in 1 1/8 in to 6 1/2 in
Clearance behind the vent Not specified; leave room for the FanMate At least 8 in clear behind the existing vent flange's rear edge (no AC, boxes or other obstructions)
Orientation Lid hinge toward the front Rain shield toward the rear only (hinge toward the front)

If your roof is thinner than the minimum, MaxxAir says to build up thickness at the ceiling opening with wood or similar. If there is no room behind the vent for the Deluxe's hood, MaxxAir recommends a MaxxFan or Plus with a FanMate instead. Our MaxxAir roof fan kits put a Plus, standard or Pivot fan together with its FanMate and a Dicor install kit.

Which one to buy

If you want Choose
To leave the fan running while you're away, rain or not Deluxe; a 10-speed Deluxe if you also want the thermostat to switch it on
A thermostat Deluxe 00-05100K, 00-06200K, 00-07000K or 00-07500K
A remote and electric lid Deluxe 00-07000K / 00-07500K, or Plus 00-04500K
To pull fresh air in as well as push stale air out Any Plus, or a 10-speed Deluxe
A basic, no-frills exhaust fan Standard MaxxFan, with a FanMate if it will be open in rain
A fan on a crowded roof Plus or standard with a FanMate (the Deluxe needs 8 in clear behind)
To aim the airflow Pivot, whose fan section drops down and pivots

FAQ

Is a MaxxFan Plus just a Deluxe without the hood?

Not exactly. The Plus has no built-in rain shield and, in MaxxAir's current model table, no thermostat (its 2025 catalog chart says otherwise, so don't buy a Plus counting on one). It does have intake/exhaust and FanMate mounting tabs, and the 00-04500K adds a remote, electric lid and rain sensor.

Does the remote work from outside?

No. MaxxAir says the handheld remote is infrared and only works in line of sight of the fan, inside the RV.

White or smoke lid?

MaxxAir says both let light in; the smoke tint works like tinted glass and lets in more light and heat.

Will it fit my old Fan-Tastic or plain vent hole?

If the opening is 14 in x 14 in and your roof is within the thickness range above, yes. See replacing a 14x14 roof vent with a MaxxFan and which MaxxAir cover fits. Everything is in our MaxxAir collection; found it cheaper elsewhere? We'll beat it.
