Victron makes more than 200 products and the names do not explain themselves. This guide sorts the lineup into the six jobs an RV power system has to do, tells you which product does each job, and puts them in the order most people should buy them. Every product mentioned is stocked in the Victron Energy collection. Victron backs its products with its own manufacturer warranty; see our warranty page for how claims work.
Job 1: Know what the battery is doing (buy this first)
Before you spend on chargers or inverters, install a shunt-based monitor. Voltage alone cannot tell you the state of charge of a lithium battery, and most "dead battery" complaints turn out to be a bank that was never full.
- SmartShunt 500A/1000A/2000A (from $99.99): no display, reads out over Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app. The right choice for most RVs.
- BMV Smart battery monitor ($106.00–$152.00): the same shunt with a panel-mount display.
- Lynx Shunt VE.Can ($378.00): a shunt built into the Lynx busbar system, for larger installs with a GX device.
The BMV-712 vs SmartShunt comparison and the SmartShunt install guide cover the details.
Job 2: Charge from solar
Every Victron solar controller is rated as "max PV voltage / max charge current." A 100/30 accepts up to 100 V from the panels and delivers up to 30 A to the battery.
- SmartSolar MPPT 75/15–100/20 ($63.00–$95.00): one or two panels, small banks.
- SmartSolar MPPT 100/30 & 100/50 ($109.99–$179.99): the common RV size, 400–800 W of panels at 12 V.
- SmartSolar MPPT 150/35 & 150/45 ($197.00–$233.00): higher panel voltage for series strings and long cable runs.
- SmartSolar MPPT 150/70–250/100 VE.Can ($442.00–$662.00): large arrays, 24 V and 48 V banks.
- BlueSolar MPPT ($46.00–$215.00): same electronics without Bluetooth; needs a VE.Direct dongle or GX for monitoring.
- BlueSolar PWM ($30.00–$64.00): budget, lower yield. See MPPT vs PWM.
Match panels to controller with the solar-MPPT pairing chart. If you are starting from nothing, the Off-Grid Solar Starter Kit (MPPT 100/30 + BMV-712) ($269.00) bundles jobs 1 and 2.
Job 3: Charge from the tow vehicle
Modern alternators and lithium batteries do not get along without a DC-DC charger between them. The charger limits current, converts to the right profile, and (in isolated models) separates the two grounds.
- Orion XS 12/12-50 ($324.99–$379.00): the current top pick, 50 A, very efficient, small.
- Orion-Tr Smart isolated ($170.00–$287.00) and non-isolated ($209.99): the established line, 18 A and 30 A models.
- Orion-Tr converters and Orion 24/12: fixed-voltage converters, not chargers; use them to run 12 V loads from a 24 V or 48 V bank.
The Orion XS vs Orion-Tr Smart comparison and the Orion install guide cover wiring.
Job 4: Charge from shore power (and make AC when there is none)
You can do this with a separate charger and inverter, or with one inverter/charger. The inverter/charger is the better answer for any RV that runs 120 V loads off-grid.
Standalone chargers
- Blue Smart IP65 120V ($52.50–$201.10): waterproof, 5–25 A, the standard RV maintainer.
- Blue Smart IP22 ($125.97–$210.80): indoor, 1 or 3 outputs, higher current.
- Smart IP43 ($339.00–$457.00): universal input, for larger banks without an inverter.
Standalone inverters
- Phoenix Inverter VE.Direct 120V ($92.00–$348.00) and the GFCI UL 458 version: 250–1,200 VA, for a few outlets.
- Phoenix Inverter 12/3000 & 24/3000 ($1,059.99): large inverter, no charger.
Inverter/chargers
- MultiPlus 120V (from $274.99) and MultiPlus Compact ($739.99–$824.99): 500–2,000 VA, single AC input.
- MultiPlus 2000VA 12/24/48V UL ($599.99–$779.99) and MultiPlus 12/3000 & 24/3000 UL ($1,069.99–$1,079.99): the RV workhorses, UL-listed.
- MultiPlus-II ($639.99–$1,549.99): newer platform with a higher PowerAssist rating.
- Quattro ($1,349.99–$3,349.99) and Quattro-II ($1,199.99–$1,269.99): two AC inputs for shore plus generator.
Sizing help: which MultiPlus-II, MultiPlus vs Quattro, MultiPlus install.
Job 5: Store the energy
- LiFePO4 Smart 12.8V & 25.6V ($444.00–$2,038.00): Victron's main lithium line; needs an external BMS (below).
- LiFePO4 NG ($622.00–$2,688.00): newer generation; check the BMS requirements for your model before ordering.
- Lithium SuperPack ($181.00–$958.00): built-in BMS, drop-in, no external management needed.
- AGM Deep Cycle and Gel Deep Cycle: lead-acid options.
- Peak Power Pack ($382.80–$705.00): portable lithium for a small load or a jockey-wheel motor.
Read Smart vs NG vs SuperPack before choosing.
BMS and protection (required with Smart and NG batteries)
- Smart BMS 12-200 ($221.30): BMS with built-in alternator current limiting, ideal for trailers charged from the tow vehicle.
- Smart BMS CL 12-100 ($158.30): similar, 100 A alternator input.
- VE.Bus BMS / V2 ($111.00–$149.00) and VE.Bus BMS NG ($149.00): for systems built around a MultiPlus.
- smallBMS ($45.99): minimal BMS for simple systems.
- Lynx Smart BMS ($727.00–$1,083.00): BMS plus shunt plus contactor in the Lynx format.
- BatteryProtect ($39.00–$127.00) and Smart BatteryProtect: low-voltage disconnect for loads. BMS vs BatteryProtect explains which you need.
Job 6: Distribute, fuse, and monitor the whole system
- Lynx Distributor ($215.00) and Lynx Power In ($150.00–$181.00): busbar with four fused positions, the clean way to tie everything together.
- Fuses: MEGA-fuse ($55.00), MIDI-fuse ($5.00–$18.00), ANL 5-pack ($48.00), holders for MEGA, MIDI, and ANL. See the cable, fuse, and busbar sizing chart.
- Battery Switch 275A ($41.00) for a hard disconnect.
- Cerbo GX MK2 ($264.00) with GX Touch ($214.99–$385.00), or the all-in-one Ekrano GX ($600.00): the system hub that puts every Victron device on one screen and on the VRM portal. Cerbo vs Ekrano vs GX Touch and Cerbo wiring cover it.
- Cables: VE.Direct, RJ45, RJ12, and remote on/off in the Victron Data Cables & Interfaces collection.
